The first T-38’s rolled of the assembly in 1961. Since then, 
more than 72,000 U. S. Air Force pilots have trained in Northrop Grumman Corporation’s T-38 Talon, the world’s first supersonic trainer. Nicknamed ‘Talon’ some 1,200 were produced from 1961-72. Today more than 500 are currently operating with the Air Force and NASA.

The F-16 followed the F-5’s Lightweight Fighter paradigm, a smaller alternative to the heavy and unmaneuverable fighter aircraft of the time. The A-37 Dragonfly was the follow on aircraft from the original T-37 ‘Tweet’ subsonic trainer. In 1963, the Air Force awarded a contract to Cessna to modify the T-37 with stronger wings, three stores pylons on each wing, larger wingtip tanks, larger engines and other enhancements. The result was a dramatically more substantial aircraft from the T-37. Today, most of the A-37s still flying are in Latin America including Colombia, Peru, El Salvador, Honduras, Ecuador and others. Only Colombia and Pakistan still operate the T-37.

The first F-15 Eagle to the air on July 27, 1972, . Six months later, the Air Force approved the Eagle for full-rate production. In the mid to late 1970s the F-15 set many time-to-climb world records. Between Jan. 16 and Feb. 1, 1975, the F-15 Streak Eagle broke eight time-to-climb world records. It reached an altitude of 98,425 feet just 3 minutes, 27.8 seconds from brake release at takeoff and coasted to nearly 103,000 feet before descending.

The F/A-18 Hornet was the first aircraft to have carbon fiber wings and it was the first tactical jet fighter to use digital ‘fly-by-wire’ flight controls. The Hornet, as F-18 are affectionately called, was designed for aircraft carrier duty active duty in January 1983. Hornets provided around-the-clock battlefield coverage in Iraq, Afghanistan and continue to deployed in newer variations, including the F-18 Advanced Super Hornet with conformal fuel tanks, an enclosed weapons pod and signature enhancements that began tests in August of 2013.

The C-130 Hercules is one of the most ubiquitous aircraft in aviation history.
